A Movie to Remember

Our Official Second Date

It was the Monday of December 16, 2013 when we agreed to set a second official date. After a week of texting and phone calls, which were weird and awkward, but beautiful, satisfying and filled with joy to talk to one another. There was a tornado of emotions we felt at that moment.

Christopher was known, at that time, to not like or know a lot of movies, he didn’t even enjoy going to the movies. I, on the other hand, can go any day, any time to the theatre and I wouldn’t even mind seeing the same movie twice.

It was a very stressful week from school – Chris had final exams and I had final projects to submit. We had talked a little that week about likes and dislikes and at the time we were spending time studying and doing projects; however, we wanted to spend time together. Finally, that week we saw each other. He used to sneak me into his house while everyone was sleeping, and we kissed – and by kissing, I mean intensely making out (hence the hickey on his neck).

I have a passion for horror movies, Christopher, on the other hand, likes comedy-romance and sci-fi. Much to my distaste, he has seen Titanic more times than I care to count, however, since being together he does enjoy the odd horror film. That day we went to the theatre, there was not a variety of good movies playing; however, we ended up watching Gravity, a film with Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, Ed Harris and so on… and it was not the smartest decision of picking that movie as a second date. It was a movie that gave us a lot of anxiety. The movie would go and I would just stare at him and see his reactions from the movie.

At the same time – the anxiety feeling that the movie makes you feel because Sandra Bullock (the main character) cannot get back to earth, Christopher was making this cute worried face.

He was so cute reacting to the movie that could just stare at him just looking at his face for endless amount of time — from time to time, he would notice I was looking at him and quietly laugh at me because I was not paying attention to the movie.

We enjoyed our time at the movies, but the movie selection was a poor decision for a second date. I remember that night like it was yesterday; the clothes he was wearing, his scent, the cute eye glances during the movie. We may not have loved the movie, but it was clear we were beginning to grow close, closer than either of us had anticipated.

After the fiasco of the movie, we took some time to decide what we wanted to do next. Keep in mind we are talking about Canada in December – the true north, strong and free. It was winter; cold, probably a couple of degrees below zero, yet we decided to go to beautiful Lake Ontario in Mississauga and enjoy the quiet chilling lakefront. That part of the evening was fantastic, we enjoyed the walk, despite the cold weather, the frozen puddles and the scent of the sterile cold air. It was a perfect weather to hug, cuddle and kiss. We were walking in the woods to get closer to the water area, and the whole time we were just criticizing the movie.

Like any good Canadians, we spent about as much time as we could stand in the cold, and headed back to the car after some more getting to know each other chatting by the water. To this day, I can remember his hazel-grey eyes matching the winter background perfectly, and the fun we had that night.
