Another World Outside the Bubble

Do you ever have moments when you look at a little kid and see the excitement on their face over a new toy, pots and pans, the first snow fall or even a paper origami boat? Something that can be completely random, yet, they still have this twinkle in their eyes and a grin from ear to ear.

Sometime's I space out when I see my little cousins, nieces, nephews, or kids in general when I see them having that "moment."

I remember what it was like to have that same smile, twinkle, and glimpse of hope and magic everywhere.

That was the great part about this bubble.

You didn't have to do anything but be a kid. Everything was done for you. If you wanted to have a tantrum on the floor or write on the walls, you could...why? Because you are a kid and you don't know any better.

I laugh at it sometimes, thinking how much my brothers and I did growing up. How many times there would be a hole in the wall from playing hockey, sledding down the stairs (Thanks Home Alone), playing capture the flag, jumping on the hood of my parents new car, and playing Peter Pan with bread knives while jumping on the bed.

Risky, but we survived, don't worry.

The point of this is that we all grew up in this bubble. The bubble of imagination, protection, and a somewhat good life.

How did we ruin it?

By wanting to grow up too fast. Wanting to be like the "Big kids," wanting to be an "Adult," whatever that is. Unfortunately for some, they didn't have an option to be a kid long, they had to "Grow up" for the sake of survival. But that's a different topic for another time.

So, we're grown, now what?

We have more responsibility, bills to pay, mouths to feed, people to look after.

We grew up. We forgot about the little things...the good little things.

We got so caught up in relationships, people hurting us, working a 9-5, developed addictions, fell into depression, had anxiety, lost all hope in ourselves, because the bubble popped. We were no longer little kids that didn't know any better or had someone holding our hands. We were struggling to survive and breathe, because no one can teach hurt, depression, anxiety, and pain. It's something we have all gone through at some point in our lives and either got it treated, suppressed, or is still in it.

In my bio, I mentioned that I'm a Pastry Chef.

A lot of people always ask me why I chose that field.

Answer: Because it's the one moment I get everyday that gives me a break from everything else. It's my one escape. I get to play with my food, design something for my clients and get to see that glimpse of "Magic" in their eyes for that one moment. It is stressful at times, but it is worth every second of it when I get to see a moment of happiness in someone else's eyes.

We may all be grown, but I do believe that kid is still a part of us somewhere.

This life isn't easy to say the least.

I hope that whatever bubble that you grew up in, and where you are at right now...I can only say that I wish you the best and all the success and happiness that life has to offer you.

It's not all bad. It's nice being able to have your own house, car, family, etc.

It's nice being able to travel and meet people and go through things in life knowing that it can only make you stronger. I hope one day I'll be able to slow down a bit and enjoy the ride, instead of driving all the time. I hope the same for whoever reads this too.
