Nothing to Fear, Everything to Love

Learning to shift the balance.

When we get right down to it, there are basically two things possible in the lives of every human being. We can act from fear, or we can act from love. It can seem a lot more nuanced and complicated than that, but the essence of every thought and action can be traced to either of these two polarities.

We've all heard the saying, "There's nothing to fear but fear itself." To take it a step further, we don't even have to be afraid of fear either. If we really get up close and personal to the energy of fear in our body and mind, what can it really do to us?

It's when we start believing in fear that we run into problems. Ultimately, all of our fear has to do with the fear of death, of annihilation or non-existence. We identify with the physical body and live in fear of our eventual or potentially sudden demise. Thankfully, spiritual messages are beginning to become more common that allow us to investigate this erroneous idea.

Different ways of looking into the truth of ourselves reveal that what we are is actually consciousness itself, unborn and undying. The consciousness that we are witnesses the temporary energy of fear, watching it come and go. As we delve into our true nature as consciousness, the momentum of fear begins to be replaced by the influx of love.

What we have seen in our history so far is that people are often afraid to bring more love into their lives, for fear of losing it or getting hurt. In relationships, we see this play out in different ways. People fall in love, go through a sort of infatuation period and then end up having a painful breakup. After enough time many of us close up our hearts and become convinced that being open to love is just too painful an experience for us.

Since love is the most natural and real condition in the universe, we can never truly stop seeking it and yearning for it. As a substitute, we construct walls of fear around our hearts and settle for temporary pleasures and psychological comfort zones. This can be in the form of various addictive behaviors and ways of distracting ourselves from the lack of love we feel at the core of our being.

What fear really comes down to is the belief that love is lacking, that it is nowhere to be found. We look out into a world full of fearful people that seem to confirm the fear we also feel within. The good news is that every one of us is meant to be the source of love, rather than a seeker of it.

Imagine the sun that forgot how brightly it is always shining. It sees the moon that reflects some of its own light back to itself. It asks, "How do you shine this light, can you teach me to shine as brightly as you?"

Each of us is like a shining star that has yet to recognize its own brightness. When we see small examples of love in our daily lives, we may wonder how we can take part in a loving solution to the issues of the world.

Instead of looking to the world for guidance, we start to look within ourselves and allow the radiance and creativity that is already there to come forth into our body, mind, and the world at large.

It is only because we have built these inner defenses that we do not always feel and experience the love that we all are, or we may not experience it as brightly as we would like to.

That is what the spiritual journey is all about. We go within ourselves to confirm the truth of our being, as the consciousness of radiant love itself.

The more we allow our truth to shine out into the world, the more others respond in kind. Right now the world is full of seekers that do not realize that they are the Source itself. Fear begins to dissolve when we realize our eternal nature as the source of love rather than a desperate seeker of it.

It takes a simple choice that we can all make right now, to begin loving ourselves through our experience of fear, rather than living in fear of never finding true love. The most important thing any human being will ever accomplish is to embody and live from the truth of who they are and to shine endless love and inspiration into the world. May you be blessed on this journey.
