What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the phrase 'dating a horse girl?' For most people, they think of one thing. Crazy. That is the first thing people think of us horse girls (I am one too, so I am speaking from experience). I am going to tell you the truth behind that myth... it is 100 percent truth. We are crazy. Before you exit this article thinking you've 'confirmed that theory and you don't need to know anything else,' I advise you to continue reading before making a decision to date one of us. We really are some of the best people. (Disclaimer: I understand not everyone fits into these categories so please have grace, this is an article that's supposed to be fun.)
1. We are patient.
We can spend hours convincing our horse the thing they think is going to kill them actually isn't. We have to have patience because in our sport we communicate with another species and that doesn't just happen with the snap of the fingers, it takes patience.
2. We will save you money on medical bills if you get hurt.
Horses are notorious for getting injured, they're such big creatures it's a wonder how they always end up getting hurt one way or another. Problem is, the vet=expensive, so most of us have figured out how to properly clean, bandage, and heal a wound.
3. You'll save money on food because we don't eat much(sorta).
Yes, we eat, we are humans too. But most of our days are very busy which doesn't leave us a lot of time to eat. So, for the most part, we rely on coffee to get us through our day. Though when we have time to eat, we love to do it.
4. We're strong.
I know, I know, that's exactly what you want to hear, your girlfriend is stronger than you. But it's inevitable for us to gain muscle. Between cleaning stalls, lifting bails, and preventing excited geldings from pulling us behind them while we walk them to their field, we have to gain muscle. Though trust me, it's hot.
5. Money
Okay, so this one can go two different directions, we are either really good with money, finding the best deals, making the spreadsheets, and figuring out how to save wherever we can or we don't know how to keep the money we've got, we always wanna buy something for our baby (our horse), or anything we've been wanting in that department. Neither is a flaw but we do fall into one of those categories.
6. We have a deep love.
We spend our time loving an animal that isn't always perfect (though we think it is, because my baby boy is my perfect angel) and sometimes we get frustrated. But despite all that, we spend hours trying to work through the problem to get to this place of happiness and bliss (then we do it all over again to get even better, but that's besides that point). We will be willing to work through any problem we have with you because of the deep love we carry.
7. Um...well...we are dirty.
We go to the barn, even to drop something off for one second, and we get back caked in dirt. There's no way around it. We come home with hay in our hair, hands covered in dirt, the smell of horse, and probably a horse sneeze on our face. Eventually, you won't even notice.
8. Time
So this isn't exactly a problem of time management, but when we are at the barn time seems to disappear. We really do try but it escapes us leaving us leaving four hours later than we wanted to. Please be patient, we will get home and will make time for you.
9. If our horse doesn't like you...
Well, we probably won't be seeing you much more. Horses are a great judge of character and we trust them probably more than we trust anyone else. They become our best friends and teammates and who we trust for guidance. I wouldn't worry too much, I only had one boyfriend my horse didn't like.
10. We are crazy.
We are fun, spontaneous, know how to have fun, we can drink and keep up with you, we can help fend for ourselves but also be involved with you, and most importantly, we love the most intense. So please, give us a chance. We really are some of the best people when you really get to know us.
