Everyone in a long time relationship knows these 11 things are essential to growing with one another through this new walk with each other as a couple that plans to move things forward. Even when you read what is written below, it will probably give you new ideas and help your relationship. Here are 11 things you should do in a relationship:

1. Understand one another's anxiety.

Everyone has anxiety of some kind. Public speaking, separation, generalized, anxiety developed from PTSD, etc. And your partner should understand how it makes you feel when those symptoms occur; they should understand you in a way no one else has gotten to understand. They should be there to comfort you and even talk to you through it.

2. Do not accuse your partner.

Whether you had friends, their friends, or your family; even if you have a suspicion, always ask. But don't make it sound terrible, as in don't tell them "we need to talk," especially through text message or over the phone just to hang up and have them be wondering what they did wrong. Because you should always trust them, and confront them after they give you your answer. Understand their why.

3. Defend them against your family.

If you know someone in your family is GOSSIPING about them, especially to their enemy but your family member's friend, if your other half knows it hurts you, they would take up for you.

4. DO NOT TALK ABOUT YOUR PARTNER'S FAMILY!

Unless they have done you wrong, if not there is no reason to trash talk. Who is silly enough to trash talk to their partner about their partner's family members anyway? Respect goes a long way.

5. Tell them they are beautiful or handsome or even give them a simple compliment.

Make up one, be original! A compliment goes a long way. And chances are, you might even make their day. Sometimes all we need is a confidence boost!

6. Show instead of tell.

Sometimes your partner needs more than words. Usually, actions speak louder, so show them how much they mean to you. Whether it be through a bouquet of flowers, a massage, cleaning up their house—or even their car. Show them something to show your appreciation, love, and affection.

7. Correct them when they are wrong.

If they do something you dislike, let them know. Number eight will get more into this.

8. Do NOT scold your partner in front of your family and friends.

That is damaging to them and the relationship. Everyone has feelings so spare them until it is the right time, but don't just nag at them, in fact, don't nag at all. Just softly explain to them what they did that bothered you.

9. If you two LIVE TOGETHER, help around the house.

A simple picking up your socks goes a long way. It is not just one less thing for your partner to do, but it shows them you care. It shows them that they do so much for you and you know that.

10. Shower together.

Intimacy is something that keeps a flame burning. Everyone craves it. You do not have to have sexual intercourse, but just helping your partner reach their back with the soap is enough to feel cared for and good. If it gets super steamy—go for it. You know what I mean.

11. Take turns.

I know you two are not siblings, but you two should take turns. Take turns cooking, picking out the movie, where to even buy groceries. You would be surprised at how you two will bond. Sometimes all we need is a confidence boost!
