An Open Letter to the Boy Who Changed My Life

Dear Sweetheart,

You showed up at exactly the time when I needed someone the most. My whole life has been a pit of sadness. I was overcame by a darkness that consumed me. More than consuming me, I was the darkness. I’ve had to fight through so much all throughout my existence and I was at a point when I couldn’t handle anything else going wrong. I’d struggled through my mother abandoning me, my drunken father, an abusive relationship, a failed marriage, and self-loathing just to name a few things. I was honestly ready to give up. I self harmed just to numb the emotional pain that I was feeling. But then you came along and changed everything.

From the first day we spent time together, I knew that you were something special. As much as I tried to not fall for you, I couldn’t help it. It just took one look into those beautiful eyes of yours and I was gone. But not only are you flawless on the outside, you have the most amazing personality, and that is what I love the most about you.

As high as I built my walls, you still found a way to tear them down. You brought love and hope back into my life. For once, I actually want to get out of bed in the morning and I look forward to the future. You filled a void in my life that I didn’t even know existed before. You’ve shown me that I might not be worthless after all.

All of my life, I’ve been torn down and treated like I was nothing. You unknowingly changed my whole perspective on the world. I used to think that people were the worst thing ever and that no one could ever love me. You changed that. Now, I almost get excited to meet new people.

You never fail to make me smile when I’m upset and you always hold me while I cry. You give me massages, forehead kisses, and all the hugs I want. You’ve not only spoiled me physically, but also emotionally. For the first time in my life, I have no doubts that I am loved. Sure, you get in my nerves more than I ever imagined anyone (other than my sisters) could, but, I wouldn’t trade you for the world.

I am so proud of the man that you are. You have such a kind heart. You always help people. You deal with my mood swings and temper tantrums without complaining or yelling at me. You never say things to hurt my feelings. I hope that you never change that. You’re the greatest man that I have ever known and I am truly blessed to call you mine. You have such a bright future ahead of you and I just hope that I get to be a part of it.

I promise you that I’ll always try my best to be an amazing girlfriend. I know that I suck sometimes (most of the time), but I truly do care about you more than I ever dreamed that I could care about someone. Even on my worst days, I’m head over heels for you. No matter where life takes us, I’ll always support you and be one of your biggest fans.

I am so thankful that I have you in my life. I’m grateful for all of the things that you do for me, which truly is a lot. You picked up all of the broken pieces that no one else cared about and you mended my heart with more love than I have ever known. You’ve shown me what it really means to be loved and for that, I am beyond thankful. You’re my greatest adventure and my biggest blessing.
