After the Thaw
Do you remember how hard it was to go to sleep the night before a possible snow day? Parents would want you to go to bed at a normal time, you know, just in case of school the next day. But you would know in your heart that if you just wanted it bad enough, you could make it snow just enough to get school cancelled for the day. On those nights, sleep felt impossible. The sheets became too scratchy, the pillow became too flat, and even the electronic candle in the window, a leftover decoration from Christmas, became too bright for restless eyes despite being only a dim and orange flicker. So instead of sleep, I would stare out the window, watching the snowflakes fall in the shine of the corner streetlight.

Lyin' Gamer
I’ve hit a very specific age where instead of getting asked how much I bench (which honestly has never once happened), I am asked if I am a gamer. Numerous people, who have nothing to do with each other, have seen me with my fat face, thinning hair, novelty t-shirt, and thick-rimmed glasses, and thought, “That dude spends his free time playing video games.”

Inspired By: Lilibette ASMR
I have always considered myself a creative person, but with none of the proof. I don’t have much evidence to demonstrate my originality. A smattering of random blog posts across the internet and some acrylic paintings at home do not make an impressive body of work. Sure, I like my hobbies, but I have never been proficient enough at any of them to consider them a legitimate source of income.

Shame Before the Internet
Being a child of the 80s, I grew up in a time before constant surveillance. Although, just because I have a clean criminal record, doesn’t mean I didn’t have my grubby little mitts into some nefarious behavior. But kids my age were lucky to not see it end up on the internet within minutes. At worst, your hijinks would end up as a quote in an AOL profile instead of trending nationally with a clever hashtag and a screenshot of your unassuming face, causing instant shame.

Review of 'Demon House'
Demon House is the name of the 2018 documentary starring, written by, and directed by Zak Bagans (of Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures fame). It follows Bagans and his paranormal investigation crew as they examine a house, known for its haunted history, in Gary, Indiana. The home, purchased sight-unseen by Bagans, has been the flashpoint of many stories involving demonic possession since first being publicized in 2014.

ASMR: My Top Ten Artists
Have you ever heard someone speak and the tone of their voice gave you “brain tingles?” Does watching something mundane like watching someone draw help you to relax? Does binaural whispering make you feel fuzzy all over? This is ASMR: Autonomic Sensory Meridian Response and it is wildly popular. It’s a technical term for the feeling that some people get from aural and/or visual stimuli that causes them to feel levels of euphoria.

The Dover Lights
The Ozark National Forest in northern Arkansas is 1.2 million acres of some of the best that the Natural State has to offer in terms of camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities. It is also the home of a mysterious phenomenon that has been recurring almost every night since the 1800s; the Dover Lights.

First Is the Worst
Though I am unsure which to feel worse about, #MyWorstDate was also my first date. The only silver lining is that I was able to get both out of the way in one mortifying evening. Many of the finer details are fuzzy, blurred by years of attempts at repression. However, the main points are still very clear.

Taking the Bait
I was standing in the checkout line at the grocery store recently. As I was avoiding eye contact with the other people in line, I started check out the magazine covers. Did you know that tabloids still exist? National Enquirer, The Daily Star, Weekly World News; all of these are still printed publications. If you haven’t read any of these rags, you might accidentally think that some of it is true. It’s like old time-y click bait.

Worst Holiday Songs
The songs that you can't avoid if you try. I should start by saying Christmas is not my favorite holiday. So, there may be the appearance of a bias here. Even so, I posit that any song contingent on a holiday will be a difficult listen. I believe Halloween is the best time of the year, but that doesn’t mean I want to listen to The Monster Mash by Bobby “Boris” Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers. Actually, that song should be the lead single off an album called 'If I Could Erase This from Existence.'

'The Moonlight Man'
Our imaginations have a way of playing the most devious of tricks on us when we are at our most vulnerable. In the quiet of night, a distance of mere feet becomes miles. Silence builds into an orchestra, and a simple shadow becomes a hellish beast. Most of us have had to make the quick-paced walk to our car after a late shift at work, scared to turn around and find someone else's footsteps matching our own.
