Blind Date

#myworstdate

I was 21 and working full time at a Title Loan store. My manager and I became really close and turned into best friends. She was there to listen to all my guy trouble and let me vent whenever I needed. One day she told me her husband had a friend she wanted to set me up with. I was so desperate at the time I told her sure.

She went home and talked to her husband and the next day she gave me the guy's number. I hadn’t seen a picture or anything of him. We texted a few days before we met that weekend. To make things a little easier my friend and her husband went with us as a double date. We were going to meet them for dinner and a movie. So the guy I went out with wanted to pick me up at my house. So I thought he was a gentleman and things were going to be okay. I get in the truck and he says hey, we make small talk for about three minutes, then nothing. The rest of the ride to the restaurant neither of us said a word.

I was panicking and trying to think of something to talk about but nothing was coming to mind. I was so uncomfortable. Usually, I’m a chatter box and will talk about anything. Not this time and it didn’t get any better when we got to the restaurant. We meet up with our friends and get to the table, he starts chatting it up with my friends husband. The entire dinner he did not talk to me or look at me! I felt like I was on a date with my friend because we only talked to each other. My friend tried to get him to talk to me but every time she would say something hinting him to talk to me, he would stop talking. At this point I’m thinking the guy doesn’t like me or something. Luckily, the movie theater we were going to wasn’t very far so that ride wouldn’t be too bad, but still no words exchanged. We get to the movies and us girls went to the restroom and I tell her what happened on the ride to dinner. She laughs and says he is just nervous, I said well so am I but we seriously have nothing to talk about. So we meet back up with the guys and go to our seats. She made it a point to sit by me so the guys were separated and he would have to talk to me right? Wrong, he sat there silently. And when he did talk he would lean around me and talk to her husband. I was so ready to leave, but did not want to take that ride home.

After we said our goodbyes and started home, I tried to small talk so it wasn’t so bad, if he did answer it was one-worded or very short. Never asked anything about myself. It was the most awkward night of my life. When he dropped me off I gave him and hug and thanked him, being the nice person I am. He looked so surprised and confused but went along with it. I did not text him after and he did not either. But that Monday at work my friend was telling me that he had texted her and asked if I would go out with him again. I told her I wouldn’t and how awful the date was. She understood and let him down easy for me. Never in my life have I had a date so uncomfortable or awkward.
