Chronicles of a Weirdo Magnet

A Peek Inside

It is a rare and beautiful occasion when venturing out into the mysterious and unpredictable world that your eyes meet with a complete stranger and the two of you know immediately that you are both thinking the exact same thing. For me when I say this is rare, I MEAN RARE, because I tend to have a very unique perspective on things and for someone, that I have randomly floated into my world, to have the same thought process... let’s just leave it at that, it’s rare.

Anywho, let’s get back to the meeting of the eyes and the thought bubbles that pop above. Because the world is such a strange and incalculable place, usually when I meet eyes with another, they are wide, full pupil eyes, staring sharply from the corners, undeniable saying, “WEIRDO ALERT,” shortly thereafter met with an awkward smile, and then a scurrying scramble away.

There are a select few, some may even say a lucky few, out there who are considered Weirdo Magnets. It may be a genetic trait, I am not sure of the exact science behind it, but it does seem to run in families. I have been dealing with this “blessing” pretty much my entire life. I recently went and had my chakra read, because why not, and was told that I have an “open crown.” Now for those of you who have NO IDEA what that means, a basic translation is that I am aware and open to new ideas and people. I envision this as a bright flashing light over my head that is alluring and magnetizing to Weirdos. You know, a Weirdo Magnet. I guess people feel this openness and acceptance and just let their weirdo hang out. So there you go, now we know the cause.

Don’t get me wrong, I am awkward and quite the odd, little, eccentric person myself, but I can just be minding my own business, acting TOTALLY normal, not flying my fruitcake flag, and WHAM, out of nowhere, weirdo interaction. Maybe I pull the weirdo out of people, like a magnet. Or maybe I am just reflecting my weirdo onto them, like a mirror. Weirdo magnet? Weirdo mirror? Not sure, we may have to revisit that later.

I enjoy this gift; it makes life more interesting. After my adventures to the outside world, I usually have a curious and amusing story to tell. I customarily first walk away from these interactions perplexed, then moments later can be found laughing oddly to myself as I replay the scene in my head. Like the time I accidentally ran over this lady’s foot with my cart in the TJ Maxx and had to pet her arm to get her to leave me alone. I apologized, she needed more, so I, crazy-eyed, petted her arm until she turned and walked away. Actually, now that I think about it, maybe I was the weirdo in that situation. Well at least now she has a story to tell!

I guess my point is, sometimes out in the world, kooky things happen, and that’s okay. Is it a product of my bizarro perspective or the other party’s peculiar presence? Maybe it is that unique combination, we may never know, but I advise that we embrace it. Let’s just nuzzle right up to it. Let’s just pick it right up, give it a kiss on the cheek, and put it in our pockets. Let’s just show the world how fun it can be. Maybe then, we can stop judging each other and start celebrating each other instead. I say to you, open your crown and you will open your world to all the possibilities.
