Winter To Summer

Maggie Summers was just a normal 18 year old high school girl. Unfortunately she didn't fit in anywhere. Not even in high school. Everyone laughed at her and called her names. They insulted her family, mostly her father, who was killed in the military a few years back. Her mother wasn't in good shape either. And everyone knew her mother as the town drunk. Maggie's life wasn't all rainbows and unicorns like some girls her age.

But the one thing people never knew about her, not even her mother, was she had a special gift. A gift so great, it was the only thing in her life that her sane. That kept her out of trouble. Because most girls her age, in her situation, would already be into things they shouldn't be in. But in the minds of those other girls, that was survival. But getting into trouble wasn't Maggie's mindset. Her mindset was day dreaming and staying out of trouble.

"I wish I could go back in time, Pebbles," Maggie lay on her bed playing with her black cats.

Pebbles was the only friend she had. The only friend who listened and understood her. Sometimes Maggie thought the black cat understood every word she spoke to her. Maybe it was the blinking she did every time Maggie spoke to her with a yes or no response.

"If I could go back in time, I could save Dad before he left that day. Before he got killed. Maybe then things wouldn't be so bad," Maggie pondered.

Would they be so bad though? Perhaps not so bad. If her father was still alive people wouldn't call her a fatherless brat. Maybe if her father was still alive people wouldn't see her mother as the town drunk. There wouldn't be any reason for her mom to drink. She wasn't like that before when everything was... perfect.

Maggie sighed and rolled over on her stomach and looked at the cat who sat there cleaning herself.

"I know of a place where I can go and everything won't be so bad. A place where people like me and I feel loved," Maggie stated with a giggle.

Pebbles did her normal thing and blinked. Her pearl blue eyes sparkling at the sound of her owner's voice.

"Maybe I'll go there today," Maggie added. "I'm sure everyone is wondering where I've been. I haven't been in two days. Maybe it's winter there now. Last time it was summer. Pebbles, I wish I could take you to my amazing place. They would love you."

All Pebbles did was let out a meow as if she agreed. Maggie smiled and laid down, her head on the pillow and the cat climbing on top of her to snuggle.

Maggie sighed and closed her eyes. This is what she did to get away from it all. Day dreamed. That was her powers no one knew about. She could go into another world of her own creation and make up people who she wanted to make up. Create different things. But for some reason her day dreams where around summer or winter. She didn't mind at all, just as long as she was at peace.

Soon she was in her little world. The season was winter this time. The air cold yet smelled like sugar cookies. As the wind blew a soft cool breeze, she heard a faint hello in the distance. It was her friend, Dale.

"Hi, Maggie!" Dale said, running up to great her with a warm tight hug. "I've missed you."

He rubbed the back of his head nervously but smiled. His cheeks a rosy red and his dirty blonde hair covered with a blue beanie. A brown leather jacket kept his body warm.

Maggie giggled. "I've missed you too. Things haven't been well as to the reason I've been MIA for some time."

Dale gave her a soft sweet look and hugged her once more. "Well, you forget that you can come here and let not those troubles worry you. We love having you here, Maggie... I love having you here."

Maggie blushed. She knew the moment she day dreamed Dale that he would fall for her. It was her imagination after all. She didn't complain though. Because she liked him just as much.

Maggie was known as the Day Dreamer in this world. But in her world, she was known as a nobody no one cared about. But like every dream, they usually came to an end. So she had to make the best of things while she was here. She had to dream the impossible dream. Live the life she wanted here in this world because she couldn't have that in the other world.

So for now, she would continue on as the Day Dreamer.
