What I Want You To Remember

Dear, younger self,

You are now 26, about to be 27 in a few more months and your world has grown crazier. I have some information for you, that I want you to always hold on to and remember. To read whenever you need a little pick me up, whenever you are unsure whether you are doing right by yourself and if you ever feel overwhelmed by this crazy life. Because let's be honest, I’ve been there and done that, so far everything is going okay.

The first thing I want you to remember always is that you are loved and that there are people looking out for you. Even if you don’t feel like you matter in this life, you honestly do and to never think down on yourself. You are a unique individual and the things that you like about yourself, are the things that others will love. So never stop being yourself, keep your head held high and never let anyone say you are nothing!

I want you to spend more time talking to mom, unfortunately, she will not be around as long as you would like her to be. I want you to make her see that you are an individual and that you are strong enough to take care of yourself. When you disagree with something, she says, discuss it with her and explain to her why your opinion matters. Don’t just say because argue your point with logic and remember that she will always love you. Also, spend time with her, watch more movies and just remember what she smells like because, besides those memories, that smell will be all that you will have once she’s gone.

Remember, to take a year off for college because in 2010, your going to meet your best friend in your first class. Listen to what he has to say because he will blow your mind and show you, that there are people out there just like you. He has a great heart and reminds him of that every day. Don’t be afraid to show how you feel and stand up for someone, who can’t stand up for themselves. He has a long road ahead of him, just don’t ever let him give up. He is going to be your partner in crime for a very long time and you will learn to love him, as much as I do now. Celebrate moments together, and don’t let fear stop you.

Don’t worry you will be getting braces, so those gaps in your teeth that you hate will disappear, but make sure you wear the retainer afterward otherwise you’re going to lose those straight teeth you love so much. Make your doctor appointments while you can and stop putting so much sugar in your coffee, young lady. Get your license as soon as you can, have mom help you because you will appreciate the memory and don’t ever let fear of driving stop you. Go outside more too, get lost in your head and try really hard in school. Also, forget biology, your no good a chemistry and that major just won’t work, nursing is where it’s at. Start when your husband does, so you can be financially secure when he is going to need you the most. No, you’re not going to have a lot of money starting out, so save as much money as you can now because trust me, you're going to need it.

Spend time with Gracy, because she won’t be around forever and spend time with your sister. Do not let her stray from who she is and let her know that you love her. When she get’s pregnant, make sure that you are there for her every step of the way. Don’t let her be worried about her weight, let her know that she is beautiful and important.

You are exactly where you need to be and don’t ever forget that. You will meet some wonderful and horrible people too. Some will break your heart and others will mend your broken heart. Don’t allow anyone to tell you that you are not beautiful. Make sure that you enjoy life and remember what you can take with you when you go. You cannot take money with you, so don’t let it get you down or tie you down. Love your family, even if they mess up because they are human. Make sure you don’t let the future scare you because you are worth so much.
