Disabled People Have Trouble Escaping Abusive Families

My Non-Profit

Money is power in our current society. Having more income allows disabled people to escape their abusive families, since in some families, having a disability is seen as shameful. This is why abusive parents use their kid’s disabilities to control them. My non-profit seeks to help disabled people get jobs or make money online or perhaps to start painting in an art studio set-up. We would need computers. We Help also serves as a starting point within the health care rights movement. I’m seeking to establish a hotline since when are disabled people ever allowed to vent on a domestic violence hotline.

There is a massive need for this sort of non-profit right now. SSI may eventually be destroyed if the Republicans have their way. Now, on the other hand, those of us in the system know we put our own money from working into it or our family can help us out, which mine didn’t do for me. We have to stay low income to qualify for our benefits. When you make money, then you are able to support yourself. For those of us who have achieved self-sufficiency, this feels great. But those of us still working on it are in a bind.

My non-profit seeks to help people get on or off SSI if they can prove that they have a disability. Then we seek to help those already in the system to get off SSI so that they can become economically self-sufficient. Money in this world is a form of power. The more money you have, the greater changes in the world you are able to make. This is why I want my t-shirt business to make money, to actually succeed at making me able to move to Los Angeles so I can pay for all the education I need.

Yesterday I drew up a hierarchy and I have to work on job descriptions. The next step is to write job descriptions in detail. My concept is so novel that many will join up. I have to spend more time in community centers talking to people about my idea. I have met some more interested people who would like to help me given my circumstances of having no income. We need to come up with fundraising ideas, such as using my ability to push people twice my size with my Chi.

This alone could make us some money if some people bet I can’t push somebody bigger than me. Either way, I make money, given that I push someone or not. My knee has to be all the way better for this sort of fundraiser. There are also auctions. My plan is to buy a warehouse and convert it into part-shelter, part-hotline, part- office, part-art studio, and part-command center. I’d even find a way to make an infirmary for people who go to protests and do not have access to medical care because they cannot afford it.

We need a staff career counselor, a staff therapist, and a solid Vice President of the organization. The name I have chosen for it is We Help. I would have to make solid media appearances explaining what my organization does for people. We don’t know if they will formally cut the SSI system altogether but there are resounding threats daily in our current administration to do this. Where does an act like that leave disabled people? We will be screwed over. This is a darkness that we cannot allow to happen to us. This non-profit will be a great way to help people. Many cannot stay low-income forever.
