Does Life Get More Complicated as You Grow Up?

What would I say to a 16-year-old me

Renata and friends, July 2013

Hey Renata. First of all, let me tell you how good looking you are. And everyone sees it. Everyone but you.

I know how happy you are—friends, loving parents, a million and one beautiful memories.

I know now how much you love your life.

There is something that you don't know yet. And you are happy because you don't know.

First of all, there is no need to get attached to people. Be a good friend, a loving girlfriend, but never ever try to focus on how to keep it beside you. As anything in this world, a human relationship is only part-time. People come and go. They change and choose other things. Not because they got bored of you and don't like you anymore.

As a follow up, the second thing I want you to remember is, not everything in the world is focused on you. If the person leaves you without saying anything, there is no need to start thinking about the nature of this person's actions. The saddest thing is that 98% of us try to find the issues... in themselves. And most of the time, they are wrong. People can have thousands of reasons to appear, and even more reasons to disappear. You cannot make someone love you if they do not feel it. There is one beautiful song that you will discover later throughout your journey, I only heard the cover by Adele and it is absolutely beautiful, and it's called "I Can't Make You Love Me." I know how many nights you'll spend crying while listening to it. But one thing, please, listen carefully and take it in, just accept it as the matter of your well and happy being.

The third thing—do not judge. Not yourself, not anyone else. Judgments bring hate and anger in your life, which can ruin it completely. By judging, you stop seeing the beauty and the true meaning of things. Be who you are, accept people around you as they are. Do not try to change something that does not want to be changed, you will just make it worse and as a result—a broken heart. You are enough, everyone else is enough.

The last thing, be patient. I know it can be hard to wait for something or someone to happen in your life. You can spend days and nights trying to find that one thing, hoping that it will make you happy. You will try and try and try and... it won't work out.

It doesn't have to.

You are young, gorgeous, ambitious, loving person. You may not see yourself as this, but trust me, you are. There are gonna be many people who will try to break you, destroy all the good in you. But there are going to be way more people who will make you feel worthy, happy and loved. Time is the wisest teacher. Put your trust in it.
