Flexing in My Complexion

The darker the berry, the sweeter the juice.

You are probably thinking "What is the meaning behind Flexing in My Complexion?" Well the reason behind this is to share how I have been feeling about this topic for quite a while as it needs to be shared and heard.

So, Ladies and Gentleman, sit back, relax, and I hope you enjoy it!

During these past few months there's been a hate train towards darker skin women, you are probably thinking, "But what point are you trying to make? What about other people getting hate?" My point is to uplift every person getting bashed by society. Everyone is allowed to feel comfortable in their own skin without being judged all the time because of who you are or look different from everyone. YES!!! DIFFERENT! I said it. If you are a flower in a field and you stand out from any other, you would definitely get picked because you are a rare species. SO STAND OUT!!

As a dark skin women I have been hearing that being dark isn't beautiful but what do I say to this: ~The darker the berry, the sweeter the juice~. Society has been putting darker skin women down as they believe being light skin is the beauty standard. I am sorry to let you know that unfortunately you have to look like everybody else to be accepted...How sad :(

What could you possibly have heard about us?

That we are...aggressive, have no education, wear fake hair because we have no hair and we are rude. LIES! Not all black women are like that it could be anybody.

This is the type of negative energy they want to make you believe which is false, you cannot put certain type of people and say this is how they are and how they behave. If black women weren't educated I don't think we would be going to school or do certain things we do such as our creative style, so WAKE UP people!! The reason we wear fake hair is to use it as a protective style. Protective styles prevent us from exposing our natural hair from anything that could damage it. Lately a lot of black females have been on a natural hair journey which is one of the best experiences you will go through. We get to know our natural hair as we go along like what they want and what they need (by that I mean treatment). Black hair has different type of texture; it could be kinky or curly. We can grow it long or we can cut it short (it’s all in your genes and what you decide to do with it). I want to embrace any females going through this journey as it has been quiet hard to also accept our kinky hair; some believe that black females shouldn't wear blond straight hair because we copy European style.

What is my opinion on this?

To be quiet honest, I can say that everyone is allowed to do what they want as long as they love them-selves and respect it. But I also want to say that we shouldn't be ashamed to ROCK our natural hair because it is beautiful and it can go in a big Afro, no matter how short it is.

The beauty of being natural

What is colourism?

Colourism.

What is colourism?

You are probably thinking, “Has it got something to do with being an artist? Is it someone that uses lot of colour?"

Within the black community, a colourist is somebody that discriminates against someone based on their skin shade. You might think why would you discriminate someone who has the same skin colour as you? The sad truth is because they think they are superior or better looking based on their skin colour. Colourism mostly comes from someone who is lighter toned going against a darker toned person or vice versa. Sometimes even brown skin would discriminate against darker skin, but black comes in different shades so why can't we just come together as one and love each other? I could blame the media for this. I don't know if anyone has noticed that even black male singers/rappers often uses lighter skin females in their music videos. You might think it is false but it's true! I personally think that it is sad that we live in a world with small minded people, getting discriminated because of your skin tone until today just makes you feel as if you cannot be loved or be free of who you are, especially when it comes from your own people.

I hope that this story will open the eyes of today's generation to make this world a better place for everyone :)
