I am his Mata Hari...

April 16, 2010, the winds blew cold and I couldn't settle down. It was so unlike me. It was a Saturday night about 10pm and yet I couldn't sleep. So, I got up and got dressed. I walked up to the bar about three blocks away. There he was. My future husband. I cold called my Mother and told her I was staring at my husband. She asked his name. I didn't know. I hadn't met him yet. I was observing him. His gestures. His smile. His eyes. How relaxed he seemed with his friends. A friend, I recognized. Dane. I couldn't remember his last name but it didn't matter. Dane was going to introduce me to my forever.

I waited another few minutes with their drinks teetering on empty and then made my move. I sashayed over to where Dane stood and asked how he was and being a Southern gentleman he quickly introduced the men in his company. Kevin. Kevin had the easy smile, had made my heart skip a beat and me catch a breath when I first saw him. It's his birthday, check. 20 years older than me, check. No. No problem. He looks like he wants me now. His eyes were saying all that and more. This could be easy but I want him for life. The only appropriate way to give him that message was make him wait a decent interval. That was something that I was prepared to do, maybe. I buy everyone a beer and Kevin invites me to sit down with him. This was going beautifully. We sat down at the patio tables at The Catawba Valley Brewery and the first question that popped out was, "So, what are you most passionate about?"

He looked at me surprised at the intensity of my question and in that moment, I believe, he realized my intent. Would he run? Had he been anything but a Litigator he would have run. I'm sure of it. He told me later he had thought about running. He was intrigued and as yet, unsatisfied. I was a Chef and completely in love with where my career was headed. This would be a major career distraction for me. He was talking about his career and his future and so I batted my lashes and pursed my lips to distract him. If I was changing my plans he was changing his too. Finally, half an hour into introductions he says, "May I kiss you?" My first thought was, 'absolutely, but not in public.' So, I said, "Yes, but in the alley beside the building." So, without hesitation or delay he grabs my hand and walks me off the patio just past the wall for some privacy and puts his left hand in my hair and his right hand around my waist and then puts his mouth to mine. The next minute, I was completely lost. I could've passed out from that kiss. That kiss could have started global peace talks. The road to forever began that night. To Kevin, we began dating and to me I had met my match, and could begin to plan a future, seriously.

Why am I talking about it today? Because even our mechanic comments on our relationship and has told her husband stories of Kevin and I and as she (our mechanic) says, "People need to be able to believe in true love so it should be shared." Where are we in our relationship? 7 yrs in. 5 married. Children? Not yet. How are we going to tell it? My Cassanova will write me back in answer form with his own memories of our Introduction/Meeting. The readers will receive mine (Mary) and Kevin's (my husband) recollections one after the other. We will do our best to keep the reader spellbound.
