I Am Me

With Pride

I am human. You look at me and you would see two arms, two legs, and two eyes. Nothing different from the person standing next to me. We may look different, such as our skin color, hair color, and eye color. Our facial features are not exactly the same, and we probably have differences in our weight. The main difference, however, is what is inside of us. Most people are so focused on what we have on the outside, and what our gender is, to realize that we are just like everyone else to realize that we as human beings are capable of doing anything. They think that just because you are a boy you are more capable of leading a business to success and that you are girl you are much better at taking care and nurturing to anyone young and old. A guy can have a job but can't paint his nails or get them done but a girl can. A girl can tell their best friend that they love them and cuddle up with them not meaning anything but most guys can not. Why? Because we feel as if society tells us what is right and wrong?

I stopped listening to society long ago. I decided that I must be me with pride, because if I am not then I am not living my life to the fullest. I want to be able to do the things that I have always dreamed of without thoughts of worry or of what people think of me. I am me, I am transgender. I don't fit the gender norms of anything. I don't fit the gender norms of being a girl and I most definitely don't fit the gender norms of being a guy. So what box would I check? I am a guy who likes getting my nails done, but I also love to go to the gym and work out every chance I get. I don't like girly clothing and I don't like presenting too feminine. Despite all of this I am still human. I have two legs, two arms, and two eyes just like you do. I have a brain and a heart that allows me to love and allows me to feel pain when I lose someone or something I love. I play the guitar, I learn languages, I go to work. Me telling you I am transgender does not change who I am as a person, it shouldn't change anyone's perspective on who they are. They are still your friend, your child, your parent, your sibling, someone special to you. Don't lose someone great because they are "different" from what you are used to. We are still human, we are all the same. Some of us just have to be us with pride, and you too, should have pride.
