I Have Plenty of Friends... but No Best Friend

11 Things People Without a Best Friend Want You to Know

Ever so often, we yearn for the companionship of a good core group of besties. We've seen it on Sex in the City, Living Single, Girlfriends, and even Issa Rae's hit HBO series Insecure. Television has painted a picture of what relationships are supposed to be like in our 20s, but is it even realistic?

In the age of endless scrolling, fake news, and an over-saturation of information, it is so hard to see the importance of anything as we swiftly glide our finger across the screen. Seeking what's real and what's not has also affected our personal relationships. For introverts like me, social media only gave me an excuse to stay inside more often and neglect my IRL friends. At first I felt relieved of the "burden" of socialization, but now I strangely miss good ole friendships... That is now that I have isolated myself!

  1. We do like to socialize, but how we wanna, when we wanna, and where we wanna!
  2. We just want to be invited! Even if you know it isn't our scene, just invite us anyway. It's the thought that counts!
  3. We are generally great at keeping secrets. Although it may seem like someone without a best friend must have NO loyalty to anyone! Untrue! We have gotten used to people throwing all their issues on us without notice, and we listen intently!
  4. It's great to make new friends without our current bestie getting jealous.
  5. We tend to be clingy lovers. Bestie-lackers usually supplement their partner as their everything... And I mean EVERYTHING. The mom, dad, best friend, therapist, teacher etc...
  6. We want friends, we just have social anxiety.
    1. Afraid to talk to people.
    2. Thinks people hate you for no reason.
  7. Cancels plans last minute... etc.
  8. We just need to find a hobby! We know that once we start doing what we love, awesome people will gravitate toward us... blah, blah, blah.
  9. I have several close friends, and not having a number one best friend is fine!
  10. My family members are my "best friends." Some of us aren't lucky enough to have found their best friend, but some of us are even luckier and have a ready-made bestie in a sibling or cousin.
  11. I hate people... and that is also okay! LOL.

Tell me about your bestie or perhaps your lack of a bestie.
