Attractions started growing stronger.

I finally followed her on Instagram and added her on Snapchat. We talked a lot on Snapchat about anything and everything. It was a great new friendship at first. Peers started to notice us hanging out and talking so they immediately labeled us as a "thing." Of course, I enjoyed the attention although I denied any attractions shared between the two of us.

As time went on, I noticed my best friend talking more and more about this girl. It was subtle but I had a feeling he had feelings towards her as well. So I asked the girl what she thought of my friend. She thought he was funny but too much of an average "fuckboy" for her liking. I agreed with this label for him. "Fuckboy": Asshole boy who is into strictly sexual relationships; he will lead a girl on and let her down, then apologize only to ask for "pics" once the girl has welcomed him back into her trust. The perfect description of my friend. Although I completely believed my friend was a horrible person, I still managed to be so close to him. I still do not understand why I did that.

Anyways, I was content with her answer because that meant she was unlike most of the girls at our small school. She wasn't into him.

August was just coming to a close when I was invited to my friend's party that, supposedly, everyone who was anyone would be attending. I never considered myself popular—instead I was social. I knew a lot of people and was luckily friends with most of them. So I decided to attend this party because the new girl wanted me to and so did my friend.

It seemed to be a normal high school party. There was a large number of people all in their groups and cliques but luckily I was able to find her when I first arrived. She was talking with my friend and sharing a drink. I walked up to them and joined their conversation. Ruby seemed to be a very popular subject at the party since not many people knew a lot about her and she seemed so mysterious. Everyone wanted to know more about this strange and pretty British girl.

The party seemed normal and boring until our group shifted into a bedroom down the hallway. A good amount of people were in the room, all of whom I was good friends with. I sat with Ruby on the bed and the group decided we would all play truth or dare. All the dares seemed to be based around couples and very sexual. It was well known that my friend had a thing with a girl in our class and she was dared to give him a lap dance. Another couple was dared to kiss anyone who wasn't their partner. And finally, my friend targeted Ruby and I. After conversing with a friend, he dared me to kiss her. I was hesitant but I asked her if she wanted to. She stood up with me and leaned in. I had never had a real kiss with a girl. It was strange but seemed to work. She used tongue, which threw me off but I think I redeemed myself. It seemed to last forever and after it was done, everyone cheered and my buddy gave me a friendly punch on the chest.

It wasn't that great.

We couldn't be separated all night. We stayed side by side and we seemed like a couple. I felt like I had to do something. So I invited her to my house after to hang out for a bit and watch a movie.

I drove her to my house, she met my parents, we went to my room, and she introduced me to Skins. It is a very popular TV show in the UK and she said that it was the only show she watched when she lived in London. I immediately fell in love with it. I related to several of the characters. And the best part, they were all British.

That night I thought I was living my dream. A relationship with what was supposed to be the perfect girl for me was beginning to take shape.

There was only one problem. Something didn't feel exactly right and I didn't know why. So I forced myself to be attracted to her because it had to make sense. She was supposed to be perfect. Everyone knew about her. Everyone wanted to be with her. So I had to make her mine.
