Maintaining Social Energy

Something I've recently discovered but It's not really a brand new concept.

Social energy is something that's sort of hard to explain but I'm sure many of you have already felt it. I can't really say that it's peer pressure because there are more elements to it than that. There is good and bad social energy. The energy that I want to explore is the one that keeps us motivated to do do things.

As an example, I know that working out and doing things can be fun at the beginning but we often lose our motivation pretty quick. I started wondering why our motivation dwindles so quickly. There can be a ton of factors to this but for this write up I'd like to focus on social energy.

When we start something new we're all excited to do it and get others involved. This is how some of our social energy begins and continues to build up. Our motivation is high and we're unaware of what's happening around us because we're too preoccupie at the task at hand.

My theory as to why this social energy and motivation starts to dwindle is because the activity isn't new anymore. Nobody is to blame in this case. That's just the way we we're programed as humans. It could also be that things become too easy so they're too boring or things become too difficult so we get frustrated.

Before this energy started disappearing noticed before how you may have had others that were also highly motivated to do the activity with you. It's not only you that was motivated it was the circle of people around you that were egging you on to keep going.

That's the social energy that I want to keep and maintain. It's like going to a night club and everyone is dancing. There's a certain aura to the place that makes you start to feel like doing it too. Enthusiasm breeds more enthusiasm and I think that's the key. We're all responsible for our own social energy.

If you go to a party and you're reserved or not participating it's definitely noticeable and can be contagious. You could be bringing killing the energy or even bringing negative social energy into the room. This will change the whole atmosphere of the party. This is definitely where the term life of the party came from. Those that bring enthusiasm are the ones that breathe life into the room. those that aren't enthusiastic take away some of the energy of the space.

This can be reflected in everyday life. If you work at an office and it seems miserable, know that it doesn't have to be. If you come into work with enthusiasm it'll pay dividends because you'll most likely affect your coworkers attitudes. This isn't always the case. You'll always have people that are just miserable and that leads us to our major problem.

The problem is maintaining enthusiasm. This is probably the toughest thing to do and it's sometimes really a mental fight with ourselves. Today it's particularly difficult to maintain the motivation to continue to be enthusiastic with some of the negativity that comes our way.

We have to be patient when things don't go our way. Everyone is in a rush today so we have to realize that's just the way things are. Sometimes, as hard as it might be, we just have to let things go.

We have to understand some things our outside of our power but we can influence what happens next. Things may be bad for us now but we can break the chain and make someone else's day better and bring social energy back up. So when something bad does happen, take a minute to evaluate the situation before you react. Realize what impact your reaction might make. I know that's easier said than done. If you've done something bad already just try to learn from it. See how you can add more energy to society by doing something that'll help motivate rather than dwell on the past.

When things go wrong for you it's not about you specifically. You could just be caught at the wrong place at the wrong time. Reacting spontaneously sometimes can't be avoidable but it can seriously change the energy of place negatively or positively depending on the situation. Whatever you do you got to just let it go as well. The past is the past. Try to push on to make things better.

Having like minded individuals around will also help you maintain enthusiasm and motivation. This will definitely bring your social energy up as you feel more connected when you're with others with the same mindset. It especially feels great when you have positive people.

Why not try to convert some negative thinkers as well? It'll take more time and will definitely be a challenge but they are part of our world too. Everyone has a part in social energy. It works like a butterfly effect. One minor positive gesture from you can perhaps change the life of someone else in the world. So be careful of what you do.
