My Second Post
Continued Re-Telling of my Instagram Feed
Probably going to catch a lot of flack for this one.
I don’t know if this even made sense.
As I sit here at this computer, I can still tell you that I haven’t looked it up or remotely asked anyone about the Majora’s Mask character guy thing making sense.
I know that I wanted to make this meme thing because a particular nerdy girl I had a thing for was laughing about a post she shared and I commented on.
“I want some of that, please.” I thought to myself. I wanted to have that attention further, to have her look at something I made and think it’s the funniest thing in the world.
I did no research, I did no background check, no wiki-searches—only one google search for a Majora’s Mask picture that I could make a simple Dark Knight Rises joke with.
I don’t know what his motivations are, or what he even means to the story.
Contextuallym he’s the villain?
Wears an evil mask to scare little boy Link?
What I do remember about the game is that there's a nightmare angry-girlfriend Moon face looming over the entirety of the world.
And I guess when it touches down to the planet it ends the world?
But there’s also time travel, and I think the first cross-dresser in gaming.
Again, no googling or wiki-searching or even friend asking.
I don’t want to get beat up by my friends, so I’ll spare them my dumb questioning.
So when I sent her this image and said so smugly, “Haha, I thought this was pretty funny!” with like a few emoji faces to show just HOW funny I thought it was.
She sent back, “Lol, What’s that?”
The utter shock on my face.
Do you know how long I didn’t research this joke to tell you!?
Do you know how little work I did to try and make you laugh!?
The nerve!
I was very unfairly like, “Wow, you’re kinda dumb aren’t you?”
I didn’t say that obviously, but you know what I mean.
I had no right to think that, but heck, even I knew what the game was.
So my reply of, “It’s The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask,” was messaged with a soft tone, to show I wasn’t going to make fun of her for not knowing.
She didn’t have much for me in her response.
“Oh? That’s funny.”
I could feel her lack of hilarity finding.
I sunk into my chair.
“Welp, that was great. Good job man, she’s totally just gonna fall in love with you now.”
I took myself way too seriously when it came to girls.
BUT!
Like I huge, huge, huge BUT!
I did manage to get something back out of the situation.
I won a little “Cool” favor with her as I went on to explain the game, to the best of my ability (See Above)
I went on after that explanation to talk about an idea the game gave me for a cosplay idea.
“What’s that?” She asked, interested.
“I think it’d be reaaaaaaally cool if I could pull off being the mask salesman from that game, but with like Masks from all kinds of Anime/Movie/TV/Etc."
She thought that was the COOLEST.
I was so ecstatic that she thought an idea I had was cool.
Like through the cloud barrier with joy.
So I think I walked away from the whole situation with a positive feeling.
That’s the story behind my Second Ever Post to Instagram.
A dumb joke that didn’t land.
