My Second Worst Date

The Way to a Girl's Heart

I have learned going through my 20s that I have a little bit of a bad taste in men. That I tend to be more attracted to the bad boy type. Don’t get me wrong; there have been nice guys that have had the hots for me, in a manner of speaking. But I have this problem with blowing them off when they ask me out and instead going out with the bad ones. This is a prime example…

I had just left my ex and moved back into my mother’s house. My ex just wasn’t a nice person, so my mother said I could stay with her until I was able to get back on my feet. Well, two days after I arrived at her house, my stepbrother came to me with a phone number of one of his friends that he had said wanted to meet me. Apparently, the two boys had been talking about me and he showed his friend Jordan a picture… Jordan liked me, I guess. So I started texting him and for three days we talked nonstop. We had so much in common; I was blown away. And eventually, we made plans to meet.

The night finally came. Excitement flowed through me as I rushed to put my make-up on and make sure there wasn’t a hair out of place. As the clock ticked closer to the time, though, I grew increasingly more nervous. Then Jordan arrived at the door. I can still see him in my mind. Plain black shirt and jeans. With his dark hair and brown eyes. He was muscular as well. So hot as I recall… I remember wanting to just take him right into my bedroom. Instead, we walked to the bar and then we walked home. Yes, I hooked up with him on the first date. Big shocker!

We actually hooked up and then spent hours talking. He told me that he had some troubles with law enforcement, but that didn’t much bother me because let us be honest… we all have something secret about us. I really liked him and he really liked me so we decided to keep seeing each other; we even made it official in our online statuses.

However, the next morning when I woke; little did I know that things were soon about to change. I began making coffee and decided to let him sleep in. Then there was a knock on the front door. I just had to look out through the glass to see that there were two police officers standing on our front porch. And I was the only one awake! It wasn’t anything new to be honest—there were always cops at my mother’s house looking for someone. Let’s just say my stepbrothers, their friends, and even I wasn’t always so innocent. Well, I grabbed my phone off of the counter and sent a quick text to both of my stepbrothers, basically saying “cops are here.” Next thing I know, my oldest stepbrother is coming out of his room to see what’s up while the other one was hiding all of the bongs.

The cop was there looking for Jordan. Apparently, he skipped his probation to come see me. I felt so special, only now he was being arrested which kind of made me feel horrible. I tried to get him out of there while my stepbrother distracted the cops. I attempted to slip Jordan out the back door and into this really high grass in the backyard. But one of the cops had circled the house without my stepbrother seeing and tackled Jordan.

That was a horrible end to an almost perfect date. Technically, we had only just fallen asleep because we were up all night. Well, he fell asleep and I was too wired with adrenaline to sleep. And I never saw Jordan again. He was transferred to a prison downstate all because he violated probation. So, lesson learned. Next time a nerd asks me out, I’m going to say yes.

Apparently doing something illegal is the way to a girl's heart. There goes my Bonnie and Clyde fantasy...
