Summer fling: a simple relationship over the summer free of hassle and drama
Everyone told me you were just a summer fling. It starts when swimsuits hit the racks and it ends with the back to school signs. They were so wrong. We met because I walked through the park. If only I had stayed on the sidewalk.
It was the beginning of June and I was walking through the park on my way to the library. I saw a group of guys walking though the park in the opposite direction of me. They were laughing amongst each other and messing around. I could see many other characters in this park either walking their dog or just taking a stroll on the gravel path. The important part of this story is not me going to the library; it is when I am walking through the park on my way home from the library. As I walk, I see the group of guys still there, but this time they are sitting at a table. There's three of them. One of the guys startles me as he slowly walks up to me. You see, anytime I go somewhere, I have my earphones in. I took one of my earphones out of my ear and turn towards the boy. He tells me that his friend saw me from a distance and wants to talk. I follow this boy to the table and sit with them.
Now listen. I know what you must be thinking, 'Why on earth would this girl go and sit with these boys she doesn't even know.' I get it. It's not something I would have ever thought of doing but I did it. Plus, I had nothing else to do that day. So why not spice it up? See what happens? I don't actually know why I followed this boy other than the fact that I thought he was cute. I followed my eyes, not my brain. Maybe things would have been different if I followed my brain.
As I sat at this table with these boys staring at me like they had never seen a girl before, I fumbled with my bag. The boy sitting in front of me introduced himself and his friends followed his lead. Now, for identity purpose, let's call the guy in front of me, C, and the guy who brought me to the table, S. S is the guy that I was eyeing. He was intriguing to look at and his words flowed out of him like silk. As if he had been practicing his lines for this day. He kept staring at me and after awhile he told me that my eyes were like the color of honey and that they matched my blonde hair. I mean, what girl wouldn't smile at that. He asked if I wanted to go with him and his friend to another park that was nearby and I agreed to. I got to know them both a little but my eyes were still on S. At the end of this day, S walked me home. I put my number in his phone and waited. To my utter surprise, I heard nothing from S. I went back to the park to find him and his friends sitting at the table again. His friends slowly left and then it was just the two of us.
He said he lost my number.
I gave him my number again anyway.
I think one of the most amazing things in life is stumbling upon someone and falling for them in such little time. It's also amazing how quickly that fades.
The days went by as we spent every day together at this park, or that park. It was always a park. And I'm not sure what I was expecting out of this whole thing, but it's just a summer fling, right? I fell for S and the best part was that he fell for me as well. His eyes, his smile, his words, and most importantly, his actions told me. The worst part was that I kept my feelings to myself.
He grew distant and one day he texted me "I've fallen for someone else".
It was, honestly, very sudden.
Moral of the story: Tell them how you feel before it's too late.
