Strangers

A Look into the Lives of Others

Do you ever walk past someone on the street or hear a little snippet of a conversation while sitting in the coffee shop and wonder what their life is like? Imagine if you had the power to know what would happen in their life that day. Would you tell them? Or would you watch on as it all unfolded?

Sondern. The realisation that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own – populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness – an epic story that continues invisibly around you like and anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.– The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows

It’s mind blowing to me. Everyone is so immersed in their life bubble that when we stop and think about a stranger's life bubble we want to know more. Kinda like escapism. Well at least for me it is. Like is this stranger having a really shit day? Maybe I should smile at them or give a little nod of appreciation. In my head that means "hey, I don’t know if you’re having a good or bad day but this is me acknowledging you and the fact that you’re still alive and breathing and tomorrow will be a new day so hang in there buddy!"

I think people should smile at each other more often. Don’t be that person that screwfaces or stares blankly when someone smiles in your direction. However I am not disregarding the fact that there are some creeps on the streets. In that case, I suggest you give your best fuck you in the form of an intense glare down until that smile vanishes of their face. Anyway, where was I? Yes, everyone is living a life. That’s what all of us do. But how long will I stay on the person who saw me sipping coffee in the background's mind? I could just be forgotten instantly. Or maybe they go home to their family and they ask how was the meeting with you friend from the coffee shop and they reply that it was great but there was this black girl sitting behind them wearing a hideous yellow top. I mean yellow looks good as fuck on dark skin so I dunno why anybody would have that opinion. But my point is that you would never know. But it’s cool how a piece of you can stick in a stranger's mind? Also, did you know that every face you’ve ever seen in a dream is someone you’ve seen before? Wouldn’t it be cool to see how many strangers dreams you’ve been in and how you’ve been portrayed in that dream? I’m currently sitting in the library. It’s a good place to people watch. I have a lot of questions I hope the future can answer but for now I’ll end my ramblings. This may or may not make sense to the person reading this and quite honestly it doesn’t need to. It’s what was on my mind. A thought processed into words. My spider web thoughts.

If you like more of this kind of post let me know cause I have a ton more.
