The Death of Me

Part 1

It was evening and the time had finally come.

I said goodbye to my colleagues, not knowing it would be the last time seeing them, and took off from work.

When I left the building, I saw him in the alley, leaning on the wall with one leg bent for support, smoking and looking at the horizon. Like there was nothing more important than inhaling this poison in the world.

He was so handsome with his leather jacket and his messy hair. Even his old boots fit him so perfectly.

The movements of smoking and exhaling the smoke made him look even hotter. Which I hate myself for liking.

The sound of my heels woke him from his deep thoughts and shifted his gaze to me scanning me from tip to toe with a smirk on his face.

"Hello, doll," he said when I arrived next to him, and shifted his gaze again to the horizon continuing smoking.

"Hey," I said emotionlessly. "Did you bring it?" I continued as I realised he wasn't going to say anything else.

"Yes," he said without looking at me. After he finished his cigarette and threw it away, he pulled out of his jacket a yellow folder.

Our eyes locked when he handed me the folder. We were there staring at each other's eyes for a while, seeming like an eternity.

I was lost in the ocean blue of his eyes when suddenly his phone started ringing, forcing both of us to break eye contact.

He went a little farther to talk to the phone and I started examining the files.

I could tell by the tone of his voice that he was arguing, but I couldn't hear what he was saying.

After he finished the phone call, he came back to me.

"Here's my part of the deal," I said, handing him another folder.

He took the file and put it in his pocket while nodding. Afterwards, he just turned and started walking away.

"Wait!" I said, as I didn't want this to end.

I didn't want him to leave.

I wanted to spend more time with him.

I wanted more... with him...

But little did I know... Little did I know that he would be the death of me.

"Aren't you gonna look at them? See if they're real?" I asked

"No need," he said and turned away again.

"Maybe I'm lying and it's not what I said it'd be!" I shouted so he could hear me.

He stopped walking, and after a while he took out the folder I had given him.

"It's real!" he shouted back, and continued walking away.

"Wait! There is one more thing!" I was trying so hard to keep him from leaving.

"What is it again?" he said exhausted, turning back to me.

"I... I... need your help!" I said quickly.

"No," he said, and, once again, he showed me his back.

"I will pay you!" I said, and I regretted it as soon as I said it.

He seemed intrigued and came back.

"Okay... How much?" he asked when he had arrived in front of me.

"Ermm... Five hundred," I said.

"Not gonna happen," he said, and then tried to leave again.

"A thousand!" I snapped, and I swear I heard him laugh.

"Now that's a starting place. What do you need?" he said, taking a cigarette out of his silver case from his pocket.

"I need you to help me get revenge for my father," I said coldly to the memory of my fathers death.

"Are you nuts? You ain't gonna do anything! You're gonna get yourself killed!" he yelled at me.

"I can take care of myself pretty well!" I replied back.

"Okay, I'm not gonna be a part of this. You can get yourself killed for all I care, but I'm not going to get involved to any of this. Good talk. Now I have more important things to do. Farewell." he said, and turned away again.

"No, wait! I.. I need you.. Please.. Help me.. I am begging you.. I'll double it!" I begged him.

He exhaled and rolled his eyes and something told me he wasn't going to like what he was about to say.

"Okay. I will help you. But I will do the dangerous work," he said finally.

"Oh my God! Yes! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" I said and hugged him, which, from what I can tell, he didn't expect because of his tensed muscles. But, eventually, he hugged me back.
