The Grio Takes Over the World

How a Major Retail Store Changed My Life

This is a story all about how these two beautiful, incredible, smart, funny, and kind individuals changed my life. Don't take that message wrong; yes, they are absolutely incredible people, but they are also crazy and just what I needed to shake my life up. So I was working at a large, well known retail store when I met these two peeps. I started out as a cashier but was quickly promoted to a front end manager. I ran the front which included the cashiers and the guest service department. We had a lot of crazy nights working there and a lot more adventures outside those horrid walls.

I'll start with the first one that I became friends with. His name is Darren and he was already one of the front end managers, so when I became management he helped show me the ropes. The two of us quickly became friends and barely got any work done when we worked together. One of the first things he said to me was "is that a footprint tattoo", uh yah bro its clearly feet on my foot! Haha he asked because he also has a footprint tattoo. So I guess you can say tattoos is what helped us bond and become friends.

The second one I met I instantly fell in love with. Mila Rain—she is a bright star in the darkest of nights. She is my better half. She stopped me dead in my tracks with her beautiful long blonde hair and 'don't give a shit' attitude.

Our conversations were never that long at the start, because well she was hot, and me well I'm awkward and just couldn't find my confidence to talk to her that much. Just awkward glances and short conversations like "Are you closing?" or "Hey girl!" quick little awkward one liners. I guess you could say Darren is really the one to thank for bringing us together because one day she put her big foot in her cute ass mouth. She had just clocked out and was walking with me as I was about to close some of the registers. We were just talking and laughing and she randomly asked me "how old are you?" I told her I'm 27 why? Well this is where it gets good, she goes "TWENTY-SEVEN?! WOW, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE?" Whoa girl, slow down, I may be old but I just moved here and am getting my life situated. I am just trying to get my life together lol. I was just like wow gee thanks. She quickly realized how that sounded and goes "NO NO NO I didn't mean it like that!" by that point the damage had already been done and my ego was quite bruised. We continued to talk for a few minutes then I told her goodnight as I went to close down the front.

I know I haven't told y'all where Darren played a part in this but just give me a second and I will. After I closed and we were all able to leave I met my cousin at a local bar to have a few drinks. Well all of a sudden I got a text from Darren saying "Hey Jackie, is it okay if I give Mila your phone number? She texted me and asked for it." Um inside I was saying hell yah give that cute b*tch my number but in reality I said, "Haha, yeah she probably just wants to apologize for calling me old and saying I don't have my life together." I guess that was a little melodramatic of me, but like I said my ego was bruised. Anyways she just texted me saying she was really sorry and that she didn't mean it the way it came across. Of course, since I'm a damn sweetheart I forgave her.

That is where it all started! Mila and I soon started dating but kept it quiet on the account that we are both girls and weren't sure how everyone would take it. We even kept it from our third wheel for about eight months. He forgave us and we all became super close. He is our best friend and loves and accepts us for who we are. Fast forward a little over a year and we have come out to our parents and those closest to us. So far everyone has been accepting and kind for the most part. The three of us have been inseparable ever since. We have gone to Florida (to stay and hang out for a little while), moved into our now third house together, all switched to different jobs (some more jobs than others), gone to concerts, gone to Mila's, grandparents lake house a few times, gone to Galveston, New Braunsfels, Fredricksburg, lots of little adventures, and just have grown as a unit and individually.

We have a lot of fun and sure we have some downs but nothing major and we always come back stronger than ever. I think I will leave y'all with that, because if I continue this story will end up being a novel.

Stay tuned for more stories including the three of us and more!
