A continuation

Nelson and Kassandra have been doing nothing but spending almost every day with each other as possible. They felt the utter joy when they saw their presence in the room. Kassandra felt safe, Nelson felt happy.

Nelson didn’t stop going to parties, however, and that started to get on Kassandra’s nerves since she wasn’t into it. That’s until it was his 18th birthday that was approaching.

Nelson was trying to figure out how he can possibly take her to his party. He already knew so many things about her at this point, and he knows how stubborn she is about social gatherings. So he bumped into her when he came out from lunch and sucked it up and asked, “It’s my 18th birthday party this Saturday, will you come?” He asked abruptly. He saw the glowing look in her eyes. What was she possibly thinking?

Something inside of her changed drastically. She felt so different because it was someone very special to her genuinely asking if she would like to attend one of their special events. Somehow she felt touched. There she said “okay.”

The night of the party comes, and all the seniors from town and out of town show up to his house. Nelson was pumped because he enjoyed the amusement of it. Kassandra brought a friend because she knew she wasn’t going to be with him all night, so she wanted company in a place where she barely knew the people she saw. Nelson’s friends are hyping him up in his kitchen, but as he saw Kass enter the door, he was fully mesmerized but her effortless beauty.

There it goes, her hands started shaking and clenching. She starts feeling hot. Her friend Alessia left her to go upstairs in one of the bedrooms to go make out with one of the seniors. She couldn’t believe she felt so alone. She saw Nelson and hugged him before she was going to have a miserable episode of anxiety. Nelson hugged her tightly, but he wasn’t too sober to understand why she was shaking. Kass didn’t like drinking, which was a major essential to have at parties. She couldn’t handle it anymore. She ran to the bathroom so Nelson wouldn’t witness her cry abundantly.

Nelson kept chasing her and tried to unlock the bathroom door. “KASS KASS SASS KASSSSSY KASSS COME OUT THIS DOOR RIGHT NOW MISSSSY,” He shouted with a loud slur. Kass was disgusted at everything that was going on in that moment. She wanted to go back home which was her only sanctuary.

After a while, she came out and tried to make sure he wasn’t around. As soon as the coast was clear she made a run for it. She got into her car and drove back home. Nelson felt sad inside because after chasing her, she was gone for the whole party.

BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ. Her alarm went off. She checked her phone like it was the daily newspaper. Suddenly she opened to 15 missed calls and 30 text messages from him. “WHERE ARE YOU, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU, CALL ME NOW.” All of this was at 1 AM. She didn’t think he would ever understand how being in a room full of people looking at you constantly and you sucking at engaging a conversation would ever put so much pressure on one person. She didn’t text him until she saw him on school Monday.

As she got out of her last class and hadn’t seen him once all day. As she collects her book and bookbag she leaves to go home until she saw Nelson waiting outside for her.

Nothing was more awkward than the party. “You have some explaining to do,” Nelson commanded. Kass kept looking at the ground while she was building up the courage to say to him.

“You don’t know what I go through. You don’t understand that I’m silent and you’re loud. You’re friends with the world and I’m friends with myself. We are too different and I don’t think you can help me,” she shouted.

Nelson was taking this all in and realized that there’s more to her than what he knows. He wants to keep on trying to make this work. Even if that means he has to limit himself to parties and school events cause she’s changing him drastically. She’s showing him the real side to life than all his friends do.

“I want to understand. I want you to talk to me about why you feel this way. Please, I really can’t get you out of my mind. I need you,” he spoke softly.

She was crying hysterically, but couldn’t believe what was coming out of his mouth. She slowly accepted him. They looked again at each other’s soul, held hands, and kissed. Right there, they knew something was too special for either of them to throw it away.
