Why

So Mean?

Why is human kind so mean to one another? Are we so fragile of a species that we feel the need to tear down those who think, look, or act different? In America we have become so divided that at a holiday get together families are name calling and arguing over their political views. Yes, politics are important. It is important to be heard and to stand up for what you believe in. However, it is not needed to constantly bash others for their different views. I'm almost completely opposite of my family when it comes to what I believe or feel, not just politically, but religious views and sometimes straight moral views are different.

We have divided ourselves from other fellow people. The only time we stop seeing race, religion, or political viewpoints is in the case of emergencies. How sad are we, that because someone wants to vote for Trump or Hillary, we suddenly HATE them? Yes, both parties have different views that are important. But really, do we need to hate people we have never even met? Do we need to call people "libtards," "snowflakes," and "deplorables”? I don't know about ya'll, but if my kids went around calling people names and hating people strictly for what they believed I would be kicking their ass.

Yes, stand up for who you are. Fight for those who can't. But for crying out loud have some dignity. I had a friend of a friend's comment on something the other day on her Facebook page. Something that I had showed my different opinion about. No big deal. I used no name calling and simply spoke how I felt. Then someone else commented using their opinions and facts they researched to show they disagreed with me. Again, no name calling, they were respectful. Then someone else commented agreeing with that person. However, they decided to begin to start name calling people who viewed different. I simply asked why they felt the need to do that. Their response was that people who viewed like I do never listened to facts, always used name calling, and how they cut off those who were talking. I simply told them that seemed to be using some of the same tactics that they were complaining about. That stopped them. Either they didn't feel I was listening to them or they realized they were being irrational with how they were acting.

We are America. Both sides want us to be GREAT. Why can't we start treating others decently? Yes, not everyone will. However, if you refuse to resort to using anger to try to get your point across, I guarantee you they will stop.

Try this out next time someone starts talking crap. Simply say you look beautiful. See what hateful thing they come up with. If they still can. Give them another compliment. After a while they will lose. We are better than our anger. We are better because we have the ability to communicate with one another. We have the ability to solve issues with words. We have the ability of give and take and understanding that sometimes you have to in order to solve an issue.

Our responsibility as the superior species is to be better than the animals around us. Don’t verbally or physically attack those that you feel threaten what you believe or think. We live in a huge world. Just because someone different than you live in your community doesn’t mean your world will end. Learn about those who are different. Appreciate that we live in a country were it’s possible to have such diversity.

I am who I am. I can't change me. Believe me I have tried. I have had to learn to simply love who I am. Once I figured out how to do that, life changed.
