Where There is Smoke
In the wee hours of morning, a little grey cat, awakened by a burst of thunder and a flash of lightning, crouched against the cool wooden floor of an abandoned cabin. She trembled with the fear of the unknown, her world growing hot and dark around her until a thick powdery blackness enveloped her body, taking over what once was light and lively. After the heat came an unfamiliar weightlessness. It lifted her just above the tess where Smoke could see what had caused the darkness: a fire had started in the dry grass nearby, devouring the old cabin she had always called home, and now crept slowly towards the local campground where the shy cat was sometimes tossed little bits of fish and salty meat. She had to warn the others, but how? Gliding through the air ever so lightly and with such effortless fluidity never felt before, she headed to the meadow where she spotted a herd of grazing deer. Hovering around the large animals, she tried to whisper in their ears about the danger nearing, but they could not hear her. As she passed under the chin of the largest stag, he lifted his head and sniffed the air cautiously, then stamped the ground in a most urgent manor, alerting his family. Smoke realized now how she could help.

The Lucky One
At age 18, I knew what the word 'pedophile' meant. I considered myself book smart, mature for my age. When I actually met one during my first year in university though, the thought never occurred that this man was pursuing me mainly because of how much younger I was than he. He was 42.

Alone Among Thousands
She had bought the tickets four months ago. Every day after, Quinn Davis spent time refining the plans in her head: how much for a beverage and merchandise budget, who she would take with her, and of course, her outfit. She had been listening to the headlining rock band, Ripped Stitches, since she was a teenager and couldn't wait to hear the songs that had captivated her during those stormy and uncertain years. Her love of hard rock in high school was also the inspiration for her career choice as a music therapist. As excited as Quinn was to see her favorite band, she was also super stoked to see the opening local band, Puddle of Blood; their music was explosive and she loved listening to it on her way to work, but she also had a secret crush on their large lead singer, Robbie Kane.

To Love a Killer
I loved R. From the moment I met him in person after a few weeks of communicating on an internet dating site, I loved him. For our first date he came to my house and we took my dog for a walk in the first snow of that year. It was magical almost, this guy who I couldn't stop checking out was obviously having a good time with me and we were both enjoying each other's company.
