Men Have Periods Too
Due to my previous job, I am in a lot of Facebook groups. So many Facebook groups, in fact, that it's easier just to let them fill up my Newsfeed rather than attempt the mammoth task of removing myself from them. Most of the groups are centred around environmentalism and the topic of periods, and the best way to reduce waste on your period comes up regularly. These posts are often accompanied by some quip warning men against reading it because it's a 'lady problem'. What might seem like a harmless yet deeply unfeminist comment is actually a real cause for concern. This sort of language needs to be examined closely and it's time we started realising that men can get periods too.

'Orange Is the New Black' Is the Harsh Reality Check We All Needed
The latest season of the popular Netflix series Orange is the New Black (OitNB) dropped on Friday and if you’re anything like me you’ve already binged the entirety of it. The Netflix show is famous for opening up discussions on a number of taboos and is the only mainstream series where you will find mixed race couples with no white people, black and Latinx actors having complex storylines, a female-dominated cast, and lesbian sex in pretty much every episode. But the series has come a long way since the infamous screwdriver incident and every season the writers offer an increasingly nuanced political conversation through the stories of the inmates and prison owners, MCC.

Only the Rich Can Afford to Write
Shocking statistics released earlier this week reveal that despite an increase in book sales, authors are not receiving much money in return for their hard work. Authors are now suggesting that if something doesn't change, writing books might simply become too poorly paid for anyone to continue doing it.

Police Fail to Respond to Brutal Murder of Black Teenager
Reports are flying in about the attack of two young black women last night (22nd July) at MacArthur BART in Oakland, CA. The brutal attack was carried out by a white man aged 25-30, heavy set and thought to be a white supremacist. The suspect approached Nia Wilson, 18, and older sister Tashiya, 20, entirely unprovoked, and proceeded to slit their throats with a knife. Tragically, Nia did not survive the attack, however her sister is still in hospital fighting for her life.

Under the name The Transformed Wife Lori Alexander wishes to teach women how to be good Christian wives. Her goal is to share her wisdom with the younger generations of women. Move Over Gareth Southgate Mbappe is Football's New Humanitarian Star
Gareth Southgate has been showered with praise this World Cup, with feminist publication The Pool even hailing him as "the symbol of positive masculinity we've been waiting for." Most notably, he comforted Colombian football player Mateus Uribe following England's first ever World Cup penalty shoot-out win. He quickly became the hero of this World Cup, not only for bringing the England team to a respectable 4th place but also for his kindness, empathy, and general lack of toxic masculinity.

Can You Be Gay and Straight at the Same Time?
The human experience is incredibly complex, and something that we fail to accurately define no matter how hard we try (and we do truly try to define everything.) As a society, it can sometimes feel as though we have embarked upon an endless pursuit of meaningless, redundant labels to explain every thought and feeling human beings have. However, for some people labels are an incredibly important part of their experience, and that can offer an insight into parts of themselves they previously didn't know how to understand. Labels can serve as the explanation people feel like they ought to have for their behaviour. In such a restrictive society, labels can actually allow for the self-expression a person would otherwise have felt uncomfortable with.

Failing, Flailing, or Flying? The Millennial Career Path
When I look back at the past few years of my life, I see an absolute whirlwind. Granted, not all of that is based on my working life, having had some serious ups and downs in my personal sphere also. But, honestly, I have no idea whether I'm heading in the right direction for my career and most of the time I don't even know what that direction is.
